A Boot Buying Guide

With the evenings rapidly getting darker, the wind swiftly becoming harsher and the rain pelting it down with even greater vehemence, we can safely surmise that nobody enjoys the onset of winter. There is however one redeeming feature about the season – boots!

Most of us love a great pair of boots and have a favourite pair that is pulled out of the wardrobe year in and year out. There are however, certain ‘codes of practice’ when it comes to wearing boots and if you want to be regarded as a super-stylish fashion icon this winter, then it’s all about the boots you wear.

Consider the Length

Boots come in all different lengths and although the length of boots that you opt for is primarily about personal choice, there are some golden rules every discerning fashionista should follow.

Take ankle boots for example, they look fantastic with skinny jeans and trousers in general but should never be worn with dresses or skirts. Wearing a cute pair of ankle boots with dresses or skirts will only cut your legs off and make them appear shorter – an effect no woman wants to achieve.

Knee high boots are definitely the most versatile length of boots as they can be worn with jeans, skirts and dresses and look particularly great when worn over the top of a pair of skinny jeans.

If you’re wearing boot cut jeans then you are in the privileged position of being able to wear almost any footwear style beneath them. This is because the shape of the trouser leg is designed to fit seamlessly over boots, making them the ideal partnership.

Consider the Colour

The colour of your boots will significantly determine what outfit you can wear with them. Whilst black boots are certainly the most versatile, brown boots can look great during the winter. That being said, there are still a few golden rules to follow concerning the colours you pair together. For example, you would never wear brown boots with black dresses;or a pair of black jeans or trousers. Opting to buy a pair of black boots is definitely the ‘safest’ option but those with a more colourful wardrobe could afford to stretch to other options.

Comfort

The most fashionable boots should exude and radiate a sense of comfort. In order for your favourite pair of winter boots to be comfortable they need to fit well. To ensure you are buying a pair of boots that will fit you well, always make sure that you are able to fit your finger between the heel and the back of the shoe.
