Oversized Hearts

Hello girls!  Oh boy has it been a rough last few days.  Not only have I been sick, but then our son Jonathan got sick, and then my husband.  So we've all been sick! : ( That's a first for all three of us and it hasn't been easy, but I think we are on our way to getting better.  At least I'm hoping.

Here's what I wore today:

Just a sneak peek of my oversized heart sweater from forever21.  It was the first chilly and rainy day we've had.  This comfy sweater was perfect!

I was on the hunt for a dress for a wedding we have coming up in October.  I found one at Forever21 for just under $20!

The picture doesn't really do it justice.  I will try to get a picture of it on.  Well I got to get going.  Hope all of you are well!!

New Maxi Skirt Outfit Post

Hello girls!  It's been a while hasn't it?  It certainly has been ages since an outfit post especially! So I thought The Hot Spot was definitely due for one!

I've been wearing a lot of maxi skirts this summer!  I've never really gotten into the maxi skirt trend up until now.  I've always thought that since I'm so short, it might not be a good look for me.  I'm 5'3, so I usually avoided the longer skirts etc.

I did buy one maxi dress last summer though, and really have loved it.  So this summer I've bought at least two maxi skirts. I'm not big on wearing shorts, and it's been so ridiculously hot the last couple months, so skirts have been perfect!  They aren't tight, but rather loose and airy, perfect for those humid days!

I love all the colors in this one!  I think it's best to wear something simple on top when wearing a maxi skirt, especially one that is so colorful.  I found this belt the same day I bought the skirt and thought they would go perfectly together.

I just love how this maxi skirt sways with me when I walk, and swooshes back and forth if I turn.  I tried twirling in the air to capture the spinning of these lovely colors!

What have you been wearing that helps in this super hot weather that most of us are enduring??
What gets you though the heat?

Outfit Post: Easter Attire

The other day for Easter, I got to wear a complete new outfit from head to toe!  That's always fun, right?  I had bought this dress and sweater on my birthday.  I knew the dress was short, but I didn't remember it being that short when I tried it on in the dressing room.....

I was very cautious getting in and out of the car throughout the day!  I am a lady though, and don't try to expose any certain body parts!  lol  Thankfully nothing traumatizing happened!  Have you ever had a outfit malfunction?  Any unwanted exposure?  I hope not! Sometimes the wind is cruel though!

I also got to wear my new nude peep toe heels!!  Can you believe I almost didn't buy them?

I'm so glad I did, because they make me appear way taller then I really am!  Although, the first two days I walked in them were pretty exhausting!  Walking in gravel, and grass and such is a little challenging!  I felt like my legs and feet got a workout though!  Oh, the price we pay for beautiful shoes!  : P

Thankfully it didn't rain at all on Easter, and it did get a bit warmer then they had predicted, but I still needed my sweater for most of the day.

After church we went out to lunch with my mom, and later on went and saw a movie with my mom and one of my brothers.  We saw Arthur, which my husband and I thought was hilarious!  It definitely made me laugh!

All in all, it was a lovely day, celebrating what Easter is all about, and getting to spend time with loved ones!  As well as, stuffing my face with yummy, bad for you food! :)

Outfit Post: The Bill Cosby Sweater

Hello girls!  You remember when I mentioned one of the cardigans I got for my birthday that I couldn't find a picture of on Forever21's website?  Well I have an outfit post today, showing you girls the one baggier cardigan with the big black hearts all over it!

I've been watching a lot of The Cosby Show lately and the print and the material of the cardigan reminds me of the sweaters Bill Cosby used to wear throughout the show!  Although his weren't usually cardigans just simply sweaters.  Maybe this is something more that Denise would wear!  : P

This sweater has been my go to piece lately!  The weather has been rainy and chilly....  Quite dreary outside really, so this baggy sweater is perfect at keeping me warm.  It's also really soft too!

My husband took what seemed like a 100 photos (he's so helpful!) but I don't like how I look in most of them!  lol Doesn't it stink sometimes, when you're taking a bunch of outfit pictures and when you go to upload them, they look terrible??  You think the outfit looks really cute and the then the photos only disappoint?  Or you yourself, are doing something hideous looking in the photo?

This is one of the silly looking photos below, I won't show you the worst photos from the bunch, not this time around anyway!  It's odd what a photo looks like sometimes when you're in mid move or fidgeting with your hair or something!

Well, that's all today girls!  Hope you are enjoying your Friday afternoon!  Be sure to enter my $100 Shopbop gift card giveaway, open to US and INTERNATIONAL readers with the exception of Pennsylvania bloggers.

Outfit Post: The Granny Look

Hello there girls, I want to say thank you for listening to my venting the other day.  Things are still frustrating at work, but I appreciate all you that listened and for your encouragement!

I also, actually have an outfit post to share with you today.

It was really bright out that day, so most of my pictures turned out like this:

I would not make it long on America's Next Top Model, that's for sure!!

I thought the outfit was cute though, so I wanted to share it with you!

I really love the pattern on this skirt:

Isn't that trig in the background annoying though?

My husband also caught me trying to pull the skirt down a little bit, with this style of skirt, it can ride up a bit, and make you look like a granny:

Which, is something I never want.  Do you like the granny look??

I do however, like the ankle booties:

My birthday is tomorrow, I'm turning 25 years old!  I'm still young at heart, and love it when my birthday comes around, so I can't wait for tomorrow, and enjoying a day just for me!
Sound selfish?  I hope not! : P
Do you still look forward to your birthday?

Outfit Post: Bright Blue

It was just a little bit warmer then usual on Sunday and I got to wear a dress!  Can you believe it!!

Broke out some major heels too!

I just love this dress too!  It's one of my favorites!  I actually got it last year as a birthday present.  It's from the Lauren Conrad collection at Kohl's.  Her collection there is usually fantastic!  And guess what?!   I ordered my trench coat that I've been wanting of hers too.  It should be arriving any day now.  Can't wait! And I got it for an amazing price, which I will share with you when I wear it in an outfit post!

The bright blue of this dress makes me so ready for warmer, sunny weather!  I'm glad I wore this dress Sunday, because since then, it's gotten cold again, and is even snowing today!  What a bummer!  : (
But it can't last forever, thankfully!

Anyway, how has your week gone so far?  Are you enjoying warmer weather already?  Or freezing in the gloomy weather like me right now?

What do you do to perk yourself up during the last few weeks of the winter blahs??

I'd love to know!  I could use some help with that!

Have a lovely evening!

Outfit Post: Tough Boots, Soft Lace

I realize my outfits posts haven't been anything spectacular lately.  I blame it mainly on all the nasty snow and bad weather.  I mean, really, who wants to go out in a cute skirt/dress, in heels, in freezing cold temps and several inches of snow!?  Even if I attempted this, one heel in the snow, I'd sink.....not so much fun!  I'm sure you girls near my area, know what I'm talking about! : )

Thankfully spring is just around the corner, and warmer weather, with no snow is weeks away!  I really can't wait to break out all my skirts and dresses, and beautiful heels that get ignored most of winter!  I'm definitely envious of those of you who don't have to deal with a bad winter, and enjoy warmer, nicer weather, all year long!

Oh and taking outfit pictures outside around beautiful scenery is something else I'm longing for!  My house isn't really all that exciting, background wise.  I miss the parks, bridges, and flowers etc!  Can you tell I'm tired of winter? lol I hope I don't sound like I'm ranting!  : P

lace top and black tank: Charlotte Russe, Jeans: F21, Boots: arget

On another note can you tell my hair is actually growing?!  I've really started to notice some length coming back.....  Which I'm grateful for because I miss my long hair so badly!  I will never take it for granted again!
For those of you that are newer followers, or don't remember, here's a picture of when I first got my hair cut, and back when I was mixing things up color wise!  That's the shortest of ever had my hair.  So you can see it has grown out some, right? : )

But here's the long blonde hair I've been missing lately.....

Oh, to look back.  Isn't it funny how we never really appreciate things until there gone sometimes.  I just remember at that point I was getting so antsy with my hair and wanting a change, and then finally one day I got the courage to finally do it.  Now several months later,  I miss the hair I had in the fist place.  Oh, the irony!  Have you girls ever encountered this problem?

I'm going to let my hair grow back out to what it used to be, and hopefully it won't take forever, but I'm sure it will! It was chopped in July, and it's grown some, so we will see.

Anyway, have a lovely afternoon girls!

Three Books, A Kind Diet, and an Outfit

My cat has an interesting expression on her face doesn't she? hehe

The other day I actually went to our public library!  I haven't been there in forever, not that I have a problem with the library or don't enjoy reading.  On the contrary, reading is one of my biggest passions!  Why I don't go to the library much is because I'd rather own a book then have to return it.  My husband and I both love adding new books to our shelves and read as much as we can.  Thankfully we both share that passion.  The reason I decided to go to the library was mainly because there are a few books out there I wanted read, but actually wasn't quite sure if I should fully commit and buy them.  I figured the best solution would be to just borrow them from the library.
I walked away with three books during this trip.  The Kind Diet by Alicia Silverstone, and two semi-silly reads, which aren't normally my forte so that's why I decided to get them from the library, both of which are written by Tori Spelling, one titled sTORI TELLING and another UNCHARTED TERRITORI.

I started with The Kind Diet first, because I've heard so many good things about it, from interviews by Alicia herself, other reviewers/celebs and blogger friend Leia! :)  It's also a New York Time's Bestseller!

Blue 3/4 sleeve cardigan: Merona (Target), Black Tank: Charlotte Russe, Jeans: Bongo
Flower Necklace: F21, Headband:  Claires : P,

I couldn't put the book down!  I finished reading the entire book (part of it is an actual book and then part cookbook)  the very next day!  I've already ordered it to buy!

It's definitely worth owning, with so many useful bits of information and great recipes, you really can't go wrong!  I'm not a vegan, but even if you aren't it helps you see things from a different perspective and learn how your body reacts to certain things you eat, and what are considered "kind foods" and "nasty foods".

Alicia offers three different categories for people wanting to try out new eating styles:  Flirting, Vegan, and Superhero.  Flirting is kind of where I am.  Flirting with the idea of subbing out better alternatives for meat and other artificial foods.  I'm not a huge meat eater anyway.  I eat a burger/steak maybe once/twice a month, and the last couple times I've had read meat it's actually made me really sick, so that's way I find flirting more and more appealing.  More often then not the meat I do eat is grilled chicken, or grilled fish.  Even that's only, maybe, twice a week.  So I'm not a huge meat eater.  My primary goal is to go 4 weeks without any type of meat.  And then see what happens from there.

Right now, I'm 2 days into week 2.  I made it all the way through my fist week!

I generally eat healthy, or at least try to. : )  But this is a bit different for me, and I'm excited to start focusing more on what types of food I'm eating, grains, beans, and veggies, etc. vs. counting my calories.  Sometimes counting calories can be taxing on me emotionally and I get discouraged.  Hopefully this turns out to be better for me in the long run!

And although I haven't given up dairy, I have been really trying to swap out dairy free products for my usual dairy filled ones.  I've switched to Whole Soy yogurt (the brand Alicia suggested).  Which, is actually very good!  I was kind of scared to try soy yogurt, but was quite impressed.  My favorite flavor is raspberry so far.

I've also bought Tofutti dairy-free mint chocolate chip "ice cream" sandwiches, which you guessed it, aren't really made out of ice cream! :)  Yet, they are still yummy.  I've dappled in soy "ice cream" products before, but this kind was new to me.  My freezer is usually stocked with vegan/veggie Morning Star/and or Bocca burgers anyway.  They are lower in calories, so they've already been helpful, since last year, when I started watching my calories, and trying to lose weight.  Another thing is, I've been eating brown rice daily, with usually 2 of my meals.  So, yeah that's basically where I stand.......

Have any of you read The Kind Diet by Alicia Silverstone?  I highly suggest it if you haven't!  Have you recently tried something new with your eating habits?  Are you a big meat eater? Or maybe a vegetarian/and or vegan? I'd love to hear your thoughts on what you do to eat right, or if you try to eat right?  What works best for you?

Semi-Outfit Post: The Trench Coat

Hello girls!  How has your weekend gone so far?  Hopefully everything has gone smoothly and you had some fun as well!  I went to Kohl's and I tried on that Lauren Conrad trench I was eying online!  I never have my digital camera with me when I go shopping, so when I think to take  photo of something, it's always with my phone!  Which obviously, isn't the best quality!  Sorry about that!  But you can get the general idea!  : )

I really love this trench coat, and although I have a Kohl's gift card, and some Kohl's cash, it still isn't enough to walk away with this coat without some of my own money.  Which I could do, but I sadly decided to walk away from it, and wait till the price goes down a bit. I don't think it's been in the store long, and there were tons of them there in many sizes.  And Kohl's is always having sales, and I'm sure I'll be getting an extra % discount off thing in the mail here soon, so the smart thing to do is to hold out on it.  But I am in love, and will be returning for my very first trench coat.....soon....hopefully!

Have you ever walked away from something you loved???

Outfit Post: From Start to Finish

Hey girls!!  How was everybody's weekend??  Do anything fun??  Hopefully it was filled with good times and good food!!  We had my dad and two brothers over on Sunday to watch the big game.  I actually survived temptation and ate healthy! I was so proud of myself, surrounded by pizza, subs, chips, etc.... it was tough, but I felt so good for staying with it at the end of the day!  How about you girls what tasty treats did you enjoy?  Try any new recipes if you were hosting a party?

For today's post, I thought I would try something just a little bit different.  When putting together today's outfit, I was noticing the layering process, and thought to myself, why not share that with you, in the outfit post?  So that's what I'm going to do.

First, I started with a basic black tank.
Paired with skinny jeans (and white socks)

Second, I added a racerback eagle printed tank
It's important for me to have another tank top underneath this one, because it has big gaping openings down either side, you would see the side of ribs/stomach if I didn't layer underneath!  I like to keep things lady like :)

Third, since it's winter, and I live in Indiana, I certainly can't go outside wearing just tank tops (even with a winter coat!) I think it's a high of 16 today, with a low or 0......yep, I said zero!!!!!!  Anyway, so I added another layer.  A fun leopard printed cardigan!

Lastly, a girl must wear some type of shoes!  And since we have several feet of snow, boots are a necessity!
So I've added Black Boots to complete the look!

What do you think of my layering process?  Did the completed look turn out ok??  What do you girls do to layer around this time of year??  Did you like seeing the look evolve from start to finish?

Well, I suppose, that's all for now, have a lovely Tuesday girls!!
