What Lies Ahead

Hello girls!  It's been a busy week.  Filled with appointments and work and no time for much of a life!  How has your week gone?  About the same?  Hopefully not!

I found out for sure that I will need to get my wisdom teeth removed! And it's coming up quickly! June 7th is the day!  Yikes!
I am not looking forward to it....

I have never been put under nor have I had any type of surgery before.  I know having your wisdom teeth removed is pretty routine, but I must admit I'm frightened!  I'm going to have all 4 removed at the same time.  3 of them have already come through my gums (for a while now), but the last one hasn't come through the gums yet, so they are going to have to dig it out of my gums!  That doesn't sound like fun to me!  I'm also really nervous of being put to sleep........... I think it will be a weird feeling....

But maybe I will look as peaceful as little cutie!!

Have any of you been put to sleep?  Had your wisdom teeth removed?  Of some other type of surgery?  I'd love to hear your experiences, but please try to not to scare me too badly, if you had a terrible experience! : /

I tried looking for my post on LiveJournal about my experience, and I think it got deleted or something! I can't find it! I'll keep looking though and send it to you if I find it.

Going under was not bad at all. I was nervous about that but I was out in under a minute! Trust me, you don't want to be awake for all that tugging and pulling!

MAKE SURE the dentist gives you a syringe tool with a bent point. I can't really describe it, but I'll take a photo of it and send it to you. Basically, you fill it with water and aim it on the side of where the wholes will be to wash out any food particles after you've eaten each time. You won't need to use it at first because you should be on a liquid-based diet for about a week or so. But it's very important to use it. You may find chewing to be difficult at first so start with super soft foods after you're done with the yougurt, smoothies etc.

All I did for about a week is slept because of the vicodin. Keep a list of each time you take it. You will also probably need to set an alarm during the night to get up and take it because I woke up a couple of times in pain.

They will also probably give you another medicine (maybe an antibiotic? I can't remember). You'll probably have to take that and the vicodin a couple of hours apart because when I took them both together I felt like I was going to throw up for a LONG time.

I don't know if this will happen to you but after a while the vicodin wasn't working for me but I think it's just because my body was growing immune to it so I had to switch to taking high dosages of ibuprofen. This might not happen wth you though, my body is just always that way.

When you're going to bed, sleep on your back only for a while. I twisted a large towl and put it under my neck and brought it towards each side of my face. This helped to keep my head in place. It was kind of like a barrier so I wouldn't move during the night.

If I think of anything else I will definitely let you know!

Well, first off... Cute puppy!

Now on to the wisdom teeth... Since you're being put to sleep, I assume you're having the wisdom teeth cut out, not pulled out. You're awake when they're pulled out, which I hear is much worse. Because really, who wants to be awake for that?

I had all four of mine cut out last summer. I was scared to death! I heard way too many horror stories from people, so I was not looking forward to it. The experience wasn't pleasant, but it wasn't as bad as I was expecting. I was out within seconds and when I woke up, a nurse had me lie down and I was still too numb to feel anything.

I didn't feel any discomfort until I got home. My face was incredibly swollen. I looked so ridiculous! Lol. I was never in excruciating pain, but I definitely had some discomfort. My doctor prescribed me Vicodin, but because I couldn't eat much, it made me so sick and dizzy. :( I just took Tylenol for the pain and I was fine! I went back to the doctor a few days after surgery and had my stitches removed and slowly started eating regularly again. I still have holes in my bottom gums. I hear the bottoms ones are the worst anyway. I did lose a bit of feeling in my front right teeth and the right side of my bottom lip and right below my lip. That's a common problem and usually the feeling completely returns. It took a month or two before I fully got the feeling back in that area. It wasn't hard to deal with or anything, it just had a tingling feeling.

But don't worry, everything will be okay!

Awww. Oh no. You'll be fine though. I got teeth removed before (not wisdom) and after the initial injections to numb my mouth, I really didn't feel a thing.
I couldn't talk or eat for several hours after, but that was easy.
It's definitely not too painful, and you'll recover in no time. Anyway, it'll be a nice excuse to get your husband to really treat you like a princess for a few hours.

I've never had anything like that done, but I'm sure you'll be okay! Wishing you luck with it all!
