How To: Dress For Errands

We all have to run errands, going to the store here, picking up groceries there, shopping for this, shopping for that, or just plain shopping for fun!  For a day of errands we want to be comfortable, both in our clothes and our shoes.  Being comfortable, doesn't have to mean sacrificing style.  Certain celebs out there are great at looking good while out and about, and so can you, with just a few helpful tips!

TIP #1
DON'T WEAR SWEATPANTS/ SWEATSUITS!

Unless you're going to the gym, there's no reason to be going to any store in sweats!
They may be comfy but leave those for around the house, or at the gym!

TIP #2
For a simple yet stylish look, wear jeans, and your favorite tee
Sienna Miller Always looks great, even when she's dressed low key!

Never underestimate the power of a white tee!

Lauren Conrad knows how to look chic in a white tee!

Add flip flops (or sneakers) and a pair of sunglasses and your good to go!

Love the Wilfox heart tee!  Cute addition to any casual look!

TIP #3
Don't be afraid of wearing a dress!
Sometimes dresses can be even more comfortable than wearing pants!
With the weather warming up, loose fitted summer dresses are perfect for a day of shopping or errands!

Vanessa Hudgens looks so fabulous, yet her outfit looks super comfy as well!

Choose a casual dress like one of these:

Zimmermann tube dress, $312
Polo Jeans Ralph Lauren denim dress, 145 GBP
Shirt dress, $72
Lipsy dress, 19 GBP
Dorothy Perkins floral dress, 28 GBP
Pinafore dress, 20 GBP
MIH JEANS chambray tunic, $200

Shirt dresses are perfect for a day of shopping, add a belt for an extra special touch!  Also give maxi dresses a shot this summer, for an easy go to look! I'm loving the floral one above!

Not a dress person, wear a skirt instead!

A longer loose fitted skirt paired with a tank or tee, is effortlessly stylish!

Jessica Alba looks great here in skirt:

Swap out the heeled sandals for flats and the outfit is all about comfort and style!

TIP #4
Accessory to consider, especially in the spring and summer months:

The floppy hat!

Adding a floppy hat like Vanessa did above really completes a look, plus helps block the sun!  Can you believe the Wet Seal one above is only $8?!  What a great deal!

TIP #5
Wear Flannel!

Flannel isn't just for lumberjacks, pair a 3/4 length sleeve button down with a pair of skinnies and you have yourself a ridiculously easy ensemble! Which look are loving more?  Lauren Conrad, Megan Fox or Mary Kate's??

Although, I like them all, I have to go with the Olsen!  You know the Olsens know a thing or two about casual street wear, that looks effortless yet amazing!

I hope you find at least one tip helpful and that the next time you're out and about, you're looking good while picking up eggs, pumping gas, or buying that dress you've eying in the mall!

Have a wonderful day girls!

Big flower prints are great to establish the earthly bohemian look
 (Modcloth.com )

Tie dyes and tribal patterns also work

($69.99 from modcloth.com)

(Patchwork Chiffon Dress alloy.com)

 (Layla drop waist dress alloy.com)

(Laura Tunic Dress alloy.com)

Tunics

Flat Sandals

(Sandals: $17.80 Forever21.com)

Ripped jeans

A Band t-shirt
 ($15.80 Forever21)

Hair:

Natural waves ( you can scrunch your hair when it’s wet with some type of curl/wave enhancing product)  Let your hair air dry

Or if using a curling iron, make sure to let the curls be loose (it shouldn't look perfectly put together)

Braids

Two Low ponytails/pigtails

Braids and pigtails are both amazing options to achieve this look.  It embodies the hippie easy going mentality

Whichever hair option you chose, add a headband to complete the look.

Makeup:

Be sure to keep your makeup looking natural.  Nothing that takes long to do.  Think neutral tones: shades of browns....

And if your brave, go completely natural with no makeup at all.

Still wanting something extra special, paint a flower on the side of your cheek!

Jewelry:

If you chose to add jewelry to this look, consider tribal inspired pieces.
Chunky arm bands
A piece of jewelry with the peace symbol on it.
Big chunky rings

I hope you girls found this helpful! Would you embrace the hippie look??  I think this look works perfectly with summer.  I've never really dressed in the hippie/bohemian style before, but I do think some of the dresses are lovely.  And I think I would enjoy having a more carefree, yet beautiful look.  Something I don't have to obsess much over!
Anyway, I'd love to hear what other how to's you would like to see here on The Hot Spot!  I'm open for suggestions! Have a wonderful day!

A low ponytail

A bun

These three styles look well polished.

How To Pull Off the Country Western Look

How To Pull Off The Country Western Look:
without looking hokey pokey!  Like the girl to the right!!  Please do not try that look at home!!

Ok, now since I've got that warning out of the way, let's continue! :)

I'm not a big fan of country music.  That's just not my thing.  Every now and then I do hear a country song and think to myself, wow, that's really not that bad!  Or that song as a good message in it, but I usually keep those feelings to myself!

I do however like Taylor Swift and Carrie Underwood, but as most of you girls now they not only get played on the country stations but on the more pop type radio stations as well.  Anyway, I got to thinking about Carrie's and Taylor's style.  They usually always look great, and a lot of times they incorporate a piece that is totally "country western" inspired, but they do so in a smart way!

Key Items to consider wearing:

Long sleeved plaid or solid color button down shirt ( can roll up sleeves as well)

Cowboy boots  (see the boots Taylor is wearing above) or just a brown shade of boots

Dirty washed jeans

Brown belts -can be worn over dresses ( like below on Carrie) or with jeans

A floral or laid back summery dress
Like on Taylor.  Doesn't she look beautiful below?!

Word of advice: Don’t be country from head to toe.  You don’t have to wear a cowboy hat to complete this look, not everyone can pull of a cowboy hat.

Makeup:

Natural, nothing too dramatic, neutral tones

Hair:
Natural waves ( you can scrunch your hair when it’s wet with some type of curl/wave enhancing product)  Let your hair air dry

Soft loose curls ( use a big curling iron to achieve this look)

Another route:  Major volume: teasing from the crown

Qualities to remember : Naturally beautiful, sweet and endearing

I know when you hear the words: Country Western some of you may run in the opposite direction, I myself would have in the past.  But I think sometimes it's a good idea to look in places we wouldn't normally look to for new ways to spice up our wardrobe.  Take an idea from this post and incorporate it into an outfit one day to try something new.  Most importantly though, make it your own! :)

Have fun!  And I hope you liked the ideas!

How To Pull of the Biker Look

You want to appear tough, edgy, and cool. Guys might find this look mysterious and sexy.

Key items to consider wearing:

1. Leather jacket or metallic bomber jacket

(as seen on Audrina above)

Audrina seems to be in love with the leather jacket look! She pulls of the biker chick style quite beautifully! I think maybe she got into that whole look because when she was dating rough boy Justin Bobby....Thankfully those days of her being with him are over! Ick!

2. Black boots

The jeans/pants being tucked into the tough looking style black boots look great!

Also the pants having some tares here and there works well too!

3. gold or silver jewelry, also think about studded jewelry

These Dual Jewel Trim Rings from Forever 21 for only $5.80 would work great with this look!

4. Black eyeliner or embrace the smoky eye look

This is a great liquid eyeliner from Mark Makeup! It's only $5.50 and trust me it's an amazing product!

For your hair: THINK VOLUME!

This Kate Beckinsale hairstyle looks high in volume and sexy! Which looks great with the Biker look!

Well, I hope this helps you all! Don't be afraid to try this look! Anyone can do it, just pick the right time and place to choose to wear this! Most importantly be confident! Have a wonderful day ladies!

How To ( Brought to you by Teen Vogue)

I saw this article in the latest Teen Vogue magazine and thought this might be helpful to those of you looking to make something to wear, but needing it to be a simple enough project. I hope this works out for you! Let me know if anyone decides to do this. I'd love to see how it turns out. I myself am thinking about making this dress. Although, I can't think of what I would spell out on the shirt though. Any suggestions?? Good luck, and be creative and fun with choosing your vintage fabric!

Word Play
Sophie Buhai (left) and Lisa Mayock (right), both wearing Vena Cava, with model Nina in the T-shirt dress they created.

What You'll Need:
*three yards of vintage fabric
*A tape measure
*scissors, needle, and thread
*a white t-shirt
*felt Stick-It letters
...........................................................................................................

Step 1: Down to Size
Cut the fabric to make the skirt of the dress. For width, measure your waist and multiply that number by three. Next, cut the desired length.

Step 2: Main Squeeze
Using the needle and thread, make a running stitch across the top of the fabric, with each stitch about one-quarter inch in length. When finished, pull the stitch to shirr the skirt.

Step 3: Spell It Out
Trim the bottom of the T-shirt so that it hits your natural waist. Sew the skirt's waist to the T-shirt's bottom. Stick the letters across the front of the shirt to spell out your message.

The Results
Enjoy your new custom dress!
